The King of Kings versus The Phenom...an EPIK showdown
Triple H and The Undertaker are two sure fire future WWE Hall of Famers and two of the biggest names EVER in pro wrestling but more importantly they are the last two remaining active wrestlers on the WWE roster who made their debut in the 90's. Last week both Triple H and Taker returned after being side lined by injuries, they both stood in the ring and did not say a single word resulting in the fans going crazy kuz we knew we were witnessing something special. No words were exchanged between two legends...all they had to do was look up at the WrestleMania 27 marquee in the arena and WE ALL KNEW shit was fukken on!!!
The Game aka Triple H began his career in 1995 with WWE under the persona of Hunter Hearst Hemsley, a stuck up blue blood but his career really took off when he joined forces with HBK and the two formed DX in 97. DX was a major part of the ATTITUDE ERA in the WWF and helped the company defeat its wrestling rival, WCW. While The Rock and Stone Cold were the visible faces of the sport at that time, The Game was the man in the back ground quietly building his own legacy. Triple H has won the WWE Royal Rumble, The King of the Ring, European, Intercontinental, Tag Team, WWE and World Heavy Weight Titles a record 13 times....Like he and HBK did with DX, Trips formed a group in the WWE, Evolution. This group helped launch the single careers of Randy Orton, Batista and revived Ric Flair's career. He has gone from rookie to main eventer battling back from two serious quad injuries to become one the most important figures in WWE history. He has truly done it all in the biggest promotion in pro wrestling.
The Phenom, what can you say as a wrestling fan about The Undertaker aside from simply saying he is the most respected guy to ever set foot in a WWE ring. He made his debut in 1990 and over the last 21 years has grown to be the most larger than life persona in wrestling history. From his chilling slow saunter to the ring in the fog as fire engulfs the entrance way to his multiple over the top returns to the WWE after injuries. The Deadman is one of a kind, much like Triple H he is also won The Royal Rumble and held both the WWE and World HeavyWeight titles also starting off as rookie as a main eventer for the company over the years. While Hogan or Rock and Austin or Cena were in the forefront as faces of the company Taker has always been the backbone of the WWE. The Deadman's lasting legacy is centered mostly around the biggest event in wrestling, WrestleMania! We all know wrestling is pre determined but as wrestling fans we suspend our reality and choose to believe and enjoy what we are watching, its great and part of the reason why wrestling is so awesome. These athletes go into a ring, with a pre determined outcome but still manage to make us fans FEEL for the guys in the ring going at it, we jump for joy or awe at every false count and cheer or boo when the match ends ITS AWESOME. Ne ways back to Taker...he alone holds the record for NEVER losing at WrestleMania, an UNREAL 18-0 with wins over Jake the Snake, Diesel, Flair, Jimmy Snuka, King Kong Bundy and countless super stars from the WWF New Generation, Attitude and PG Eras. The Undertaker truly is The Phenom.
So that takes us to WrestleMania 27, Triple H and Undertaker will do battle. It wont be the first time these legends face off at Mania as they met at WM17 in a classic match. Taker won via last ride adding The Game to his list of victims and proving no one is badder than Taker at that event. Both these guys have won all the titles there are to win in the WWE and they have both been in the ring with the best of the best in pro wrestling. They both had epic battles with Ric Flair, Mick Foley, Batista, John Cena, Randy Orton, Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Brock Lesnar, Chris Jericho, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Diesel, Kane and of course Mr. Wrestlemania himself The Heart Break Kid Shawn Michaels. The last two years have seen the most interest from fans towards The Deadman's undefeated streak. He engaged in two matches with HBK for the ages at WM 25 and 26 where he retired his foe as it was a streak vs career match. The streak is something truly special in the WWE, it something truly old school dating back multiple wrestling eras. There is no hype necessary to build this match, Triple H said it best on raw. They are the last 2 outlaws standing...they have done it all and beaten them all. The ONLY challenge left is each other, they are the only two guys left standing having seen superstars come and go over the years. Like always I am sure they will play up the possibility of Taker's streak finally being ended and I truly hope it does not, it something that should always stand the test of time FOREVER. But if it was to end it would truly be the ultimate Mania moment for sure, its two old school legends meeting at the biggest event of the year. I have been a WWE fan for 18 years and I can truly say at least for me the Road to WrestleMania 27 is the most intense one I've ever been privileged to enjoy as a wrestling fan!!!
